The Opportunity
The technology organization at a leading financial institution had faced years of complexity and growth. It was transitioning leadership with the imperative to integrate teams closer to the customer in order to provide better service. The new executive wanted to rally the team around a common vision, define and raise the visibility of its activities, and prioritize its efforts in order to enable success. Due to the asynchronous, 24×7 on-call nature of its operations, distinct customer requirements across portfolios and specific high touch offerings; it was important for the team to meaningfully align.
Decision by Design partnered with the organization’s Director and its Head of Technology to define its strategic intent, build and introduce a new portfolio-aligned operating model, design and help rally employees around a shared future together.
What We Did
Decision by Design started the engagement with deep listening around the objective, purpose, and ambition of the executive’s vision informed by her conversations with customers. We held several facilitated strategy planning sessions with the leadership team as well as internal consumers and suppliers, iterating and evolving the vision to specific initiatives.
Outcome/ Results
The development of the strategic initiatives, timelines, outcomes, performance measures through the use of facilitated visual representations ensured everyone’s voice was heard and reflected. The diverse and unique viewpoints captured the leaderships’ shared vision of what was important, expectations of when and how the vision would be implemented.
The strategic roadmap has become a leadership reference point and a tangible asset to refer back to as the organization progresses on its journey. The co-creative process helped boost leadership cohesion – supporting the team to build alignment, identify areas of opportunity and priority, engage in productive dialogue, open discussions and deeply collaborate as the team shifts to the new ways of working.
